Royal Star Fish Report

Royal Star

It comes as no surprise that the weather finally backed off and the tuna responded with enthusiasm. Of course it is far from guaranteed that every time the weather takes a favorable turn the tuna will bite, but the majority of the time, if the fish are present, the odds are definitely in our favor in calm conditions. Once again the guys saw very good signs for sport fishing tuna in the lower zone with scattered fish spread out over a vast area both cruising solo and running with their mammalian cohorts. The caliber of the action was still not fantastic, but it was far better than the past few days. It sounds like just about everyone put together nice day on yellowfin in the thirty to ninety pound class and again saw fair signs of the bigger fish that apparently are not quite ready to get with the program. As for Capt. Sims and Royal Star, they will be giving the effort below at least one more day as the weather forecast is as good as can be and prospects are exactly what they have been waiting for. With any luck they will finish their time in the tuna zone with a bang before heading north again in search of greater variety.

In fact, working conditions were just short of horrible and shut down the pursuit by noon as the guys hunkered down on the anchor scratching out a few dorado and hooking a few tuna...... Read More

Far from a big day, especially if one uses the amount of fish that goes into the hatch as the sole measure of success, but overall anglers had a good time catching and releasing the usual ridge variety while picking a few "skin" from the mix as well as a few noteworthy yellowtail and grouper. With what has become a relentless stretch of cruddy weather forecast to finally subside tomorrow, the guys are heading below to take their shot hoping...... Read More
