THE PUERTO MORELOS FISHING REPORT FOR THE MARINA EL CID SPORTFISHING FLEET, (CANCUN TO COZUMEL AREA)
Another fabulous fishing week from the Marina El Cid Sportfishing Fleet in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo, Mexico, (aka The Riviera Maya) being reported by our attentive and knowledgable lady angler, Ms. Jessica Ortega. Having access to Ms. Ortega's detailed fishing reports has been a most welcome change and makes me realize just how much information we were not receiving for the past few years. This weeks fishing report reflects a total of 38 days fished that produced a 10+ fish average per boat day fished and included a 28 fish mixed bag variety. Included in the catches were 4 dorado, 67 bonito7 giant barracuda, 5 Spanish mackerel, 1 rainbow runner, 2 blue runners, 2 jack crevalle, 10 Cabrillas, 20 Huachinangos, 30 banana fish, 7 ground fish, 4 mojarras, 31 Snappers, 2 cochinas, 5 plumas, 4 porgy, 17 triggerfish, 46 rubias, 6 cuchas, 14 peto, 17 grunt, 1 escochin, 3 needlefish, 2 pipefish, 2 soapfish and 18 grouper.
PM Climate: Lots of sunshine with a mixture of passing clouds through the area and temps that ranged from 60 nights to 78 daytime highs and a humidity level at 64%.
Sea Conditions: It's been what we call a "soft water week" for the most part with surface breezes mostly flowing in from the easterly directions and ranging from calm to 11 mph. Sea temps continue to be stable at 80 degrees.
Best Bait/Lure: The continuous availability of the freshly caught ballyhoo baits allows an excellent bait supply for the various sportfishers on a daily basis. Baits can be prepared in many different methods including colored skirts to no skirts, surface trolled to down-rigger trolled, cut bait, filleted bait are just some of the variable methods. Ballyhoo baits are provided gratis as part of the charter arrangement.
