THE MAZATLAN FISHING REPORT FOR THE ARIES SPORTFISHING FLEET, (MARINA EL CID, PACIFIC)

Our on-the-spot reporter at the Marina El Cid, Mazatlan, Ms. Kitcia Ceja, reports the offshore action has slowed up during the past week and didn't seem to recover from the full moon phase. The overall conditions remain good throughout the area, especially with water temps and clarity, but the slow bite lingers on. We are experiencing the warmest waters in many years for the month of February but the billfish are just not being overly cooperative for our anglers. On the other-hand, the inshore fishing is just a notch better than excellent on the smaller game fish and bottom fish and the action is "as good as it gets". The overall catches for 16 offshore fishing days reflected 1 sailfish, 9 dorado and 4 skipjack while the inshore super panga action for 8 days reflected 1 corvina, 3 dorado, limits of permit, limits of snappers, 53 triggerfish, 5 bonito and 12 Sierra.

Mazatlan Climate: A partly cloudy week with intervals of bright sunshine and warm days. Temps ranged from 60 nights to 82 daytime highs and a 71% humidity level. Overall, excellent weather throughout the area.

Sea Conditions: Tropical surface breezes flowing mostly from the westerly directions that ranged from near calm to 8 mph. Water temps stable at 76-77 degrees from inshore to offshore.

Best Fishing Area: No special area held a cooperative fish bite. The dorado were scattered about over a wide area.

Best Bait/Lure: The sailfish was taken on a rigged trolling bait as were most of the dorado.

Bait Supply: Very good bait supply for both fresh rigging baits for trolling and live baits at $1.00 per bait.
