According to Fish Dope. com, the best areas are from the north end of South Island in the vicinity of the Ribbon Kelp where three to five pound yellowtail are being found in approximately 60-feet of water. Best bet is trolling Rapalas until the bite comes, then fish live bait or yo-yo iron. If that isn't working for you, watch your meter and when you have some marks in the lower half of the water column bomb 'em with bait or iron.
