Central Sierras/Highway 4 Fishing Report October 10th, 2007

Spicer Lake has been hot from the bank. You should try inflated nightcrawlers, Gulp Power Bait, salmon eggs, and floating Power Eggs. Fly fishermen should try nymphs, caddis, mayflies, and woolly buggers.

Lake Alpine is still producing large rainbows. The ramp is still in the water but lake is low and tough for large boats to launch. Bait casters should try inflated nightcrawlers, Gulp Nightcrawlers, Gulp Power Bait, floating Power Eggs, and salmon eggs. Fly fishermen have had success using bead head woolly buggers, sparrow nymphs, mayflies, nymphs, and caddis flies. Trollers should try using a flasher/nightcrawler combo. Lure casters should try Rapalas, Kastmasters, and Panther Martin spinners.

The North Fork of the Stanislaus has been excellent as big Browns are being caught. Fly fishermen should try nymphs, caddis, stimulators, mayflies, and woolly buggers. Lure casters should try Rapalas, and Panther Martin spinners. Bait fishermen should try inflated nightcrawlers, crickets, salmon eggs, and Gulp Nightcrawlers.

Make sure to prepare for winter conditions as there have been recent snow showers from about the 6,000 ft level and above.

Labor Day weekend is this upcoming weekend. Make sure to call ahead for camping or lodging information to reserve your favorite place. Lake Alpine has been good fishing early morning and the last hour of the evening.
