It's that time of year again! Steelhead and especially salmon fishing on the North Coast rivers is heating up, according to Brendan Semmes from Mad River Outfitters. "The mouth of the Klamath breached last week, and the river is literally full of three year old salmon," Semmes says. The three year olds average eight to 11 pounds each with a few big fish are in the mix. Anglers working the Klamath from the mouth to the confluence of the Trinity are averaging five-10 fish per day.

The flow in the Trinity is still low and clear, so the counts are lower. The area received over an inch of rain from this last storm and more rain is on the way. Just what is needed to get these rivers into shape for another great season of salmon and steelhead fishing in the coming months.
