Near The Worm
8-30-2007
Bill Roecker
"We got most of our albacore on meter marks," said Shogun skipper Norm Kagawa after the four-day Larry Fancher charter August 30, "but we also got fish on whales and meatballs. There weren't a lot of jig strikes. The jig that did get best the best was probably the plain old cedar plug in natural color. And there were a few biters on Mega Baits in mackerel color.
"We were out near the Worm Bank, about 97 miles," continued Kagawa in front of Fisherman's Landing. "The water was nice, about 67 to 68.5 degrees. If they're moving, it's toward the south."
Jackpots were handled on a daily basis for the trip, so there were no winners to shoot for Bill Roecker. Chartermaster Larry Fancher, who has been making these trips with Kagawa for 15 years, posed with a typical albacore.
