"The water at Guadalupe Island was 71 to 74 degrees," said Shogun owner-skipper Norm Kagawa at the dock August 26, "but we didn't see any fish. We got a bass and a couple of small yellowfin and headed up to the albacore grounds.

"We picked all day," continued Norm while weighing the fish at Fisherman's Landing. "We had some good stops after lunch, with up to 80 fish, and we got one small bluefin."B
Anthony Bracks of Oakland won the jackpot on the five-day trip with 29 anglers, for a 37.4-pound albie he got with one of the boat's rental rigs. He fished a sardine on a 2/0 Super Mutu hook and 40-pound Izorline.

Mike Stephenson of El Cajon won second place for a 36.5-pound albacore. John Dewitt was third, for a 34.4-pounder, and Josh Logan won the Friends of Rollo jackpot for a 32.8-pound albacore.
