Alaska Airlines will resume flying one daily roundtrip flight from Los Angeles to Los Cabos starting Oct. 8 following the recent announcement that Los Cabos International Airport will reopen. Tickets are now available for purchase at http://www.alaskaair.com/.


The airport sustained significant damage by Hurricane Odile and has since been closed for repairs. Starting Oct. 8, Flight 236 will depart Los Angeles at 10:10 a.m. arriving in Los Cabos at 1:26 p.m. The return Flight 251 will depart Los Cabos at 2:25 p.m. and arrive in Los Angeles at 3:45 p.m. Customers who are currently holding a reservation on flight 236 or 251 for Oct. 8 or later do not need to rebook their flight.


"In the following week, we will assess adding more service to Los Cabos from other cities and look forward to increasing our schedule gradually," said Joe Sprague, senior vice president of communications and external relations for Alaska. "Alaska Airlines has been a strong supporter of the Los Cabos region since 1989, flying thousands of tourists to this popular vacation destination each year and we are looking forward to resuming service there." Customers who booked tickets to Los Cabos on or before Sept. 14 for travel through Nov. 20 have three options:

Rebook their travel to a different Mexico destination served by Alaska without incurring a change fee or paying any difference in fare, provided the new travel is booked in the same cabin. These cities include: Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Manzanillo, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Guadalajara and Mexico City. Tickets must be exchanged and travel completed by Dec. 20, 2014.

Rebook their trip to Los Cabos and travel after December 20, 2014. Change fees will be waived provided travel is completed between Dec. 21 and Aug. 1, 2015. Difference in fare may apply. Tickets must be exchanged by August 1, 2015.

Request a full refund if they would prefer not to travel at all. Refunds must be requested by Aug. 1, 2015.


"Reservations agents have been working overtime to reaccomodate customers whose flights have been canceled," said Mary Avey, Alaska Airlines' managing director of customer service and call centers. "While hold times may have been longer than normal for people trying to rebook their travel, our goal was to attempt to reach out to every customer impacted by the Los Cabos cancellations by the end of the weekend and we're on schedule to do that." Alaska Airlines has extended its flexible travel policy through Aug. 1, 2015 to give customers plenty of time to rebook their travel or request a refund.


All roads to La Paz and Los Cabos are now open. Things are starting to get back to normal.
