"It was the regular fishing at the island," said American Anglers skipper Brian Kiyohara at Pt. Loma Sportfishing September 10. "It was classic Guadalupe style. The water was 73 degrees, and we got three wahoo."

"Our morning started at 3:30 am," wrote Brian September 7, "when we got up to snag a little bait. We got enough to pin on the hooks and started the fishing day before daylight. In the grey, we hooked our first fish of the day and so it began. We never had a time where they were really biting; you really had to put some time in and "fish" in order to get a bite. Even though at times it was hard work, the dividends paid was worth it. The opportunity to hook fish from 60-120lbs was there with every bait in the water. We ended up landing 50 fish, although we lost a lot of big ones. Today's picture is Bob Hara with his tuna that weighed in at a respectable 110 pounds."

At Pt. Loma Sportfishing September 10, the winners posed with their tuna. Bob Hara was first, for his 110-pounder. He said he got it with a sardine on a 1/0 Gorilla hook on 40-pound Izorline. He used an Avet LX reel and a Calstar 6480 rod wrapped by Bob's Sporting Goods.

Greg Stoney of Ventura was second, for a 105-pounder, and Todd Phillips of San Pedro was third, for a 79.5-pound yellowfin tuna.
