"Good afternoon folks," wrote Red Rooster III skipper Andy Cates September 8. "We left the Island at 10 a.m. after successfully settling the jackpot and a few more to go. We pulled the anchor after the last one was landed and headed up the Island. The weather is great traveling up. We have another 4-day trip tomorrow and with Guadalupe showing signs of picking back up after the full moon, it will probably be our best bet."

At H&M Landing September 9, Andy weighed the fish. Bill Morris of Hermosa Beach Won first place for a 76-pound tuna. He said he fooled it with a sardine on a 5/0 Eagle Claw hook tied to 40-pound Seaguar fluorocarbon leader and 40-pound Izorline. He used a TLD 20 reel with a Tiburon frame and a Calstar 765 L rod. The fish fought for 25 minutes.

Art Green, Newport CPA, won second place for a 72-pound tuna. Mike Ruthman of Northridge was third, for a 67-pounder, and Rusty Miller won fourth place, since there was no trolling jackpot, for a 61-pound yellowfin tuna.
