Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Fishing Report

8-21-2014
Larry Edwards

Another good fishing report from Captain Temo Verboonen, owner-operator of the super panga, "Secuestro de Amor". Temo says, "the fishing continues to be really good. We have some windy & rough days but the fish are biting and even better, not too far from the Bay". The skippers are reporting a good sailfish bite that starts right about the 10 mile mark, where the water becomes the perfect deep blue and clean. The inshore fishing has been pretty good for roosterfish and smaller dorados, all along Valentin Point and plenty of small jacks right by the Valentin River mouth. There is a real lack of fishermen at the pier now and only a very few boats are fishing each day.

IZ Climate: Varied temperaturs that ranged from 74 nights to 91 daytime highs and humidity hovering at 89%. Scattered showers, almost on a daily basis, especially in the afternoons and nights.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps are warm and stable at 88-89 from the shore to the 100 fathom curve and at 90-91 by 10 miles offshore. Surface breezes flowing mostly from the southerly directions and ranged from calm to 15 mph.

Best Fishing Area: The sailfish bite started right about 10 miles directly out front of the Bay and the inshore rooster fish were along the Valentin Point beaches.

Best Bait/Lures: Sailfish active on t he fresh rigged baits. Roosterfish good on live bait and poppers. Dorado are smaller fish and active on most movement through the water.

Bait Supply: Continues to be in excellent shape with fresh rigged baits provided for all charters and live bait at the $5.00 per dozen rate.
