Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Fishing Report

We finally have a terrific fishing report from Captain Temo Verboonen, our local reporter for the fleet. Overall, Temo says that the last two weeks have provided very good sailfish catches and the bigger blue marlin have been in the mix of billfish to add another layer of excitement for the anglers. There has been lots of strikes and the days have produced plenty of action for the anglers and even better, all within 10 miles of the Bay. We had a couple of windy days but for the most part, the waters are calm and deep blue. In shore action still offering good roosterfishing but they are moving around everyday. Never seem to be in the same spot for a couple of days. The rainy season is roaring up and there are less and less anglers to go fishing. Soon, the boats will be going in for their annual renovations and repairs and getting ready for the dry and calm water season.

IZ Climate: It was a bit of a rainy week with another one on it's way. Scattered showers most days and starting to turn the area green. Air temps ranging from 74 nights to 91 daytime highs and the humidity level has been at 89%.

Sea Conditions: Overall, just a couple of windy days but for the most part, calm waters with surface breezes flowing in from the southerly directions to about 9mph. Sea temps stable at 87 inshore and slowly diminishing to 86 offshore. Clarity is superb at the 7-10 mile mark.

Best Fishing Area: Continues to be close with most of the billfish being caught within 10 miles of the Bay. Roosterfish are eager to bite but moving around, day by day and they have to be located everyday.

Best Bait/Lure: Sails have been pretty eager on the rigged baits and the blue marlin seem to be liking the bigger trolled baits and the bigger lures. Roosters, when you find them, pretty eager on the live bait and poppers.

Bait Supply: Remains plentiful for live bait at $5.00 per dozen and plenty of freshly caught baits for rigging and provided as part of the charter.
