High billfish boat was the "Tuna Time", reporting in with 3 stripers released for a single day fished. There were some porpoise & tuna mixes at the Jaime Bank and outside the bank that last for a couple of days but then faded on Wednesday and will have to be relocated again. The overall fish counts reported for a total of 20 days fished reflected 12 stripers, (11 releases) 1 sailfish released, 16 dorado, 1 wahoo, 20 yellowfin tuna, 6 skipjack tuna and 1 hammerhead shark.


Cabo Climate: Hurricane Cristina is lingering in the waters to the southwest of Cabo and currently at about 350-400 miles, traveling westerly at about 5mph and predicted to change to a northwest track from that position and bypass the Baja. Still, she's worth keeping an eye on her track as Mother Nature has been known to make changes in this area of the Eastern Pacific. Other than that, it's been an excellent weather week for Cabo with mostly sunny & warm days and temps that varied from 77 nights to 94 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: The surface breezes ranged from calm to 11mph, flowing mostly from the southeast to southwest directions. There's a 10 mile swath of cooler water wrapping Cabo San Lucas that extends from Cristobal on the Pacific side to Palmilla Point on the Sea of Cortez side, with temps at 69 degrees. Golden Gate Bank, down to Jaime Bank and wrapping the cooler water surrounding Cabo and up to the Gorda Banks is all in the 77-78 ranges. A couple of miles above the Gorda Banks the temps jump to 81-82.

Best Fishing Area: The better billfish area remains above and inside the Golden Gate Bank for the boats that want to make that jaunt.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was working best this past week for the billfish and feathers and cedar plugs were working best for the tuna.

Live Bait Supply: Live bait supply is excellent, mostly caballitos, all at the rate of $3.00 each. The live bait vendors also provide the fresh frozen ballyhoo that has become one of the more popular baits for this region, also at the rate of $3.00 per bait.
