Mazatlan Fishing Report

6-12-2014
Larry Edwards

The sailfish bite averaged out to a sailfish per day fished as did the dorado, too. The overall fish report for 8 days reflected a total of 8 sailfish, (2 released) 8 dorado and 4 yellowfin tuna for the offshore waters and the 6 super panga inshore fishing days reflected a total of 23 dorado. The surprising part for this week was no black or blue marlin action was reported and everyone was expecting some acttion due to the mix off tuna and dorado that are available throughout the area, both offshore and at the buoys. The water temps remain near perfect for the bigger blacks and blues so all I can say now is, pretty soon coming.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy this past week with temps that varied from 76 nights to 92 daytime highs. Overall, excellent fishing and beach weather for everyone.

Sea Conditions: Inshore water temps a degree warmer than offshore and ranged from 86 inshore to 85 offshore. Surface breezes varied from the south to the west from light to 15mph.

Best Fishing Area: The dorado are still around the buoys and eager biters. The sailfish continue to reside out to the southwest of the Marina, starting at about 16 miles. However, there is no special area of sailfish concentration at this time.

Best Bait/Lure: The rigged baits working best for the sailfish. Smaller lures, feathers and even live bait best of the dorado.

Bait Supply: An uninterrupted good bait supply for both, fresh rigging baits to live bait. Live bait remains at $1.00 per bait.
