On the beach at the base of Punta Banda, you'll find one of the last vestiges of traditional Baja sportfishing. Vonny's Fleet remains a classic budget play for nearshore curvina blanca and jureles broncas. The real story? They still do it from beach-launched, tiller-helmed pangas--two of them wooden. In some respects, the old way is the best way.

Despite what seems to be a flurry of oarfish sightings this year, the events are still very rare. The most recent encounter was even more unique as the giant, freaky fish from the deep were not only alive, but swimming in the shallows.
