Mazatlan Fishing Report

The marlin action continued right through the back half of the full moon and into the first quarter as the fish just kept on with their unprecedented March bite. High billfish boat for the week was the "Aries IX", skippered by Captain Carlos Valenzuela, with a total of 12 stripers landed for 5 days fished and followed by the "Aries IV", skippered by Captain David Cabanillas, reflecting 7 stripers for 4 days fished. The overall fish counts for 25 offshore fishing days reflected 34 stripers, (20 released) and 11 dorado. The inshore super pangas reported in for 7 days fished and reflected 1 corvina, 1 dorado, 1 pampano, 7 jack crevalle, 2 bonito, 5 roncanchos and 54 rock perch. According to Fleet Manager, Geronimo Cevallos, the water temps continue to hold in the 75-76 degree ranges, an excellent temperature for the Pacific striped marlin, and we just don't see any let-up on the current bite action. The current chances of an angler landing their first billfish is a notch above excellent right now and there doesn't appear to be any changes coming that will affect this unusual bite.

Mazatlan Climate: Intervals of sun & clouds through the week with a single sun shiny day on Sunday. Temps very comfortable and ranged from 56 nights to 88 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Sea temps holding stable in the offshore waters, starting at about 75-76 degrees at 10-12 miles out from the marina El Cid. The inshore temps remain in the 73-74 degree ranges. Surfaces breezes are flowing mostly from the west-southwest in the 14-15 mph ranges.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish are holding at about 17-19 miles out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid, with the boats working outward from there. The water clarity remains very good in that area.

Best Bait/Lure: Rigged baits continue to be best for the billfish with an occasional fish taken on the artificial lures.

Bait Supply: Remains plentiful for both, live bait and fresh baits for rigging.
