Perfect Southern California weather paired up with an extra heavy load of trout stocked last Wednesday (2,800lbs) resulted in a 4 day 'wide open' trout bite! Never have we seen 5 fish limits being caught in less than 30 minutes...every day for 4 days straight! Trout continue to average 2 lb to 3 lb in size with very few under and many over. 20 lb + stringers were a common sight at the lake last week. Shore anglers continue to catch trout on chart. and rainbow Power Bait dipped in Bite On roe or garlic scent. Trout King mini tube jigs and mouse tails dipped in scent made up for a large majority of the fish caught on the shoreline. Float tube-fly fishermen continue to enjoy a "wide open" midge bite in the flats with a 20-30 trout average per angler. Trout are hitting #14-16 bead head midges 4" off the bottom with dark colors and a bit of flash working best. Boats doing well with bait in deep water by the bubble holes in front of the concession building and trolling Savage crank baits in the channel on both sides of the big island.

Big trout of the week was caught by Mike Jacobson of Costa Mesa with a 10 lb 02 oz tailwalker that hit a pink and white Trout King mouse tail dipped with Bite On roe via float tube in the flats. Parker Wright of Laguna Niguel topped of his double limit with (2) 7 lb trout that hit a "drop shot" white mouse tail in zone 3 off the shoreline. 36 trout in the 5 lb to 7 lb class were weighed in at the scales last week.

BASS: Big bass are eating trout and do not seem to be interested in hitting any artificial baits. A good number of smaller bass chewing night crawlers and trout jigs close to structure. Alex Gomez of Santa Ana reported catch and releasing a 5 lb bass throwing an Owner cultiva crank bait by the dam.

Channel Catfish: No catfish reported last week. 2,000lbs of trout will be stocked Wednesday December 18th.

THE LAKE WILL BE OPEN FOR FISHING ON CHRISTMAS DAY!

Rainbow Trout: Alot of trout have moved into deeper water due to warming water tempretures. Large schools of trout are holding up and chewing from the big island to the dam with the bubble holes being the HOT spots. Power Bait and night crawlers are both working well for bait. Fisherman trolling the SC Shinners in pink or silver/black have been scoring limits. Fly fisherman did well last week as the water visability cleared up in the flats...... Read More
