2,000lbs of rainbow trout was stocked Wednesday December 4th
Trout: Excellent fishing for rainbow trout continues on the shoreline and in the flats. Shoreline fishermen are catching lots of trout using different colored jigs and mouse tails in shallow water at zone 2 and zone 3. Bait fisherman are catching limits of trout soaking Power Bait and inflated night crawlers dipped with "Bite On" scent in the same zones. Trout started hitting flies later in the week after the water cleared up from last week's thunder storms. Most trout were taken in the flats in 8' of water using black/silver bead head midges. Some trophy fish over 8 lbs have also been pulled out of the creek inlet on jigs and night crawlers. Boats reporting good action trolling "Savage" crank baits in deeper water. Big trout of the week was caught by Tyler Jenkins of San Clemente with a 12 lb "tailwalker" that hit a green/white mouse tail dipped in Bite On roe scent off a float tube behind the big island. Jerry Bickner of Costa Mesa landed a 10 lb 08 oz trophy that hit an inflated night crawler dipped in Bite On garlic scent in the creek inlet. Linda Hughes of Newport Beach caught her first "double digit" trout soaking rainbow power bait off the shoreline in zone 3. A total of 28 trout in the 6 lb to 9 lb class were weighed in at the scales last week! The lake has returned to normal with 8'-10' visibility and 60 degree water temp making for ideal conditions for this week's trout stocking!
BASS: The bass bite slowed down last week, however we did see a 15lb + bass caught and released off the shoreline in zone 3. The bass was caught on a Trout King worm and when brought in close had a 2lb trout in his mouth!
BLACK CRAPPIE: Slabs to 3 lbs in size have been chewing night crawlers and crappie jigs fished in the center of the lake in front of the concession building. Trout fisherman reporting good numbers of "slabs" chewing on jigs in deeper water.
Channel Catfish: Good numbers of catfish have been feeding in the creek inlet during the heavy rain. Night Crawlers with "Bite On" garlic scent has been working best with a 12 lb catfish topping the scales last week.
