Hello from your Lake Jennings!
This was the second week of Trout season, and it started off with campers catching Trout and Bass during the week from shore. By Saturday, the line was out the door at the Bait & Tackle shop, and anglers anxiously made their way back to Hermit's Cove and Cactus Patch which was the "Trout hang out". There were some Bass, Catfish and even Red Ear caught from shore and boat, but Trout fishing was the best bet.
Best Catfish Spots: Deeper waters and the buoyline at the tower
Best Catfish Bait: Mackerel, Chicken Liver, or Dough Bait
Best Bass Spots: Points in 25' to 30' of water along the weed line.
Best Bass Lures/Bait: Swimbaits, Frogs and small Crawdads and drop shot Morning Dawn worms.
Best Wiper Spots: On the move in schools
Best Wiper Lures/Bait: Live Shiners, Chicken Liver and frozen Anchovies (fishing the bottom) and Crankbaits (if spotted towards the top).
Best Trout Spots: Hermit's Cove and Cactus Patch
Best Trout Lures/Bait: Kastmasters, PowerBait, PowerWorms and Mini Jigs
Notables: Jamie Doney of San Diego, 4 ?? pound Sierra Bow Trout while camping during the week from shore at Sentry Point; Don of El Cajon, limit of Trout with a total weight of 12 pounds from boat at Cactus Patch; Jarret Wright of El Cajon, 4 ?? pound trout from the shoreline by the boat dock. The following were all caught at Hermits Cove: Luke McFarland of El Cajon, 4 ?? pound Trout; Gary Bie of Lakeside, limit of Trout with a total weight of 8.6 pounds; Dock Weatherbie of Lakeside, 5 pound Trout; Jeremey Fleck of Lakeside, caught four Trout from 4.8 to 6.8 pounds; John Meador of Lakeside, Limit of Trout in under 30 minutes; Tyler Hanover, Carson Cox and Justin D'Gonsales of El Cajon and San Marcos all caught trout with the largest at 5.8 pounds; William Xiong of San Diego caught a 6.5 pound Trout.
Prognosis: As the word continues to get out you had better arrive early to get your spot on the lake. The water level has come down this past week so fair warning, wear boots because the shoreline is not about to dry out any time soon. The water level will be back up by the end of this year. New this year, Lake Jennings will stock 1 ?? to 2 pound trout along with trophies up to 12 pounds throughout the season. Right now, we are putting in 6-8 pounders until the water gets a bit cooler and then come the 10-12 pounders.
Water Temperature: 70 degrees and dropping
Note New Hours:
FRIDAY, SATURDAY, and SUNDAY
OPEN AT 5:45 AM
CLOSE AT 5:15 PM
