Wahoodad coming to you live, from the Intrepid, in Panama!
Today was my first day fishing in the cruisers. Silent Jim and his wife Rita joined me on Luis's Coral Star cruiser for a fun filled day of fishing. I woke up early this morning, to a smiling Paul, who was finishing up the lunches for those departing on the cruisers. A nice little literal brown bag lunch with sandwich, chips, and some other goodies, all put into a chilled bag to keep it fresh. Come lunchtime, it was much appreciated. The guys were baiting up their cruisers, so that when we finished our breakfasts, off we go. So, right after Jim, Rita and I finished our ham and cheese omlettes we climbed on the boat and sped off.
We looked for tuna on our way to our spot, looked like a small sign of fish, but not enough to dedicate much time to that endeavor. We did put out the skipjack catching dealios, and caught enough to fill the tuna tubes. I got bit on the slow trolled skipjack several times, but could not seem to hook the Cubera Snapper chewing on my bait. Jim started us off with a bigeye jack, and Rita caught a African Pompano, really nice sized one.
One thing about being down here: If you don't like the weather, wait a few minutes. We had a downpour with huge drops, but I just kept fishing. Luis kept at it, and we ended up with a fantastic day: 8 Bluefin Trevally, 2 African Pompano, 2 Barred Pargo, 2 Cubera Snappers, and a few other species thrown in as well. They have a very innovative way of rigging, and you pretty much bring your rod and reel, and they do the rest.
Paul prepared a fantastic dinner of Amberjack Piccata, Scalloped Potatoes, Candied Carrots, and Bread Pudding for dessert. Pretty tired here, but it's a good tired, from a great day of fishing. Thanks to Captain Kevin and the crew, along with the cruiser crews as well. Good night!
For the rest of us here on the Intrepid or on the other Coral Star Cruiser we had a HUGE Day of catching Rooster Fish! We caught and released 7 beautiful Roosters from our 15ft Triumph Skiff here off the big boat. A double hook-up along a nice stretch of the beach started the big day that allowed Miles, Ken(2 today), Mike, Jason Reese, Kona, my father, and myself to all get in on the bite and land a good one! What a Day! The Star VII had a couple more Roosters to go along with several very nice Snapper along with the vast amounts of variety also caught and released. We will get some rest and do it again tomorrow. "The Intrepid Team"
