Zihuatanejo fish report -- "good fishing, nice, calm ocean, blue water and close by...."

A terrific fishing report from Captain Temo Verboonen, our reporter for Zihuatanejo. In little more than a one sentence report he he had said everything the angler needed to know, "good fishing, nice, calm ocean, blue water and close by....". He added from there saying the sailfish are biting good at the 7 mile mark, just directly out in front of the Bay and the skippers are reporting 3-4 strikes or more, per day. Most of the fish are biting on the down rigger baits. One of the boats had a 396 lb. black marlin, the only one reported for the week. The inshore fishing has been really good for the 40 lb. roosterfish that are now frequenting the area around the light house at Playa Larga Beach.

IZ Climate: The early part of the week has been mostly sunny and nice weather with temps that ranged from 72 nights to 94 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Calm, light swells and perfect temps that ranged from 85 inshore to 87 offshore and the blue water from about 7 miles in front of the bay.

Best Fishing Area: Right out in front. Have the gear ready to go by 6 miles and in the water from there.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits working well on the billfish but trolling from the downriggers makes live bait very effective, too. Inshore fishing for the roosterfish has been very good using the pencil poppers and for live bait.

Bait Supply: Remains very good for both, fresh baits for rigging and live bait at $5.00 per dozen.
