There continues to be a sustained sailfish bite not too far from the Marina El Cid, a little out to the southwest, and close enough for the super pangas to get in on the billfish action. The dorado being caught have been mostly quality sized fish with almost everything above the 20 lb. mark. The offshore fleet produced a near 2 billfish per boat average with 13 sailfish, (3 released) 10 dorado and 18 yellowfin tuna for 7 days fished. The super pangas, reporting in for 8 days fished, reflected 7 sailfish, (2 released) and 32 dorado.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days and evenings. Temps varied from 74 nights to 92 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Excellent water temps that held stable at 87-88 degrees throughout the area. Good clarity from about 12-13 miles or so. Light southerly surface breezes at 10-15 mph.

Best Fishing Area: Starting at about 13-15 miles out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid.

Best Lure/Bait: Rigged baits were working well for both, sailfish and dorado, but the tuna were all taken on the various colored tuna feathers.

Bait Supply: An excellent bait supply with plenty of fresh baits for rigging and a good live bait supply of mostly caballitos. Live bait is $1.00 per bait in Mazatlan.
