The marlin bite continues to be in the excellent-plus mode in Cabo San Lucas

The full moon has not affected the marlin bite at all. There is wide spread action from Cabo Falso to Palmia Ridge that extends out to the 95 Fathom Spot and the 1150 Fathom Spot and the billfish have not been timid biters this past week. Many sportfishers returned with multiple billfish releases. I think now, as we start to see a few yellowfin tuna show up in the counts and a few dorado too, that the black & blue marlin will start to move into the various locations, particularly with the increasing water temperatures on both sides of the peninsula. The overall combined catch report for a total of 25 days fished reflected 42 stripers, (40 released) 1 sailfish released, 31 yellowfin tuna and 20 dorado. High boat for the week was the "Gaviota XI", reflecting a total of 11 stripers and 2 dorado for 3 days fishing and followed by the "Gaviota IX", reflecting 8 stripers released, 4 dorado and 21 yellowfin tuna for 4 days fished.

Cabo Climate: It's been a mostly cloudy week with some intermittent sunshine periods and temps that have varied from 75 nights to 95 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: A very fishable week with surface breezes flowing in from the southerly directions at 10-15 mph. Sea temps holding very well on both sides of the peninsula with 77-80 on the Pacific side and 81-82 on the Sea of Cortez side. All of the cooler water on the Pacific side has dissipated. Currently a full moon condition but has not had it's normal affect on the fishing for this area.

Best Fishing Area: Billfish are scattered from right outside of Cabo Bay area and range from Cabo Falso to the 1150 Fathom Spot and the numbers reflect the better catches came from the Cabo Falso to Gray Rock, (aka Cabeza de Ballena) areas, all within a few miles of the Cabo Bay area. Other than to stay away from other boats, there was no real reason to venture off to other areas, even though they all had good fish numbers being reported.

Best Bait/Lure: The artificials were working well this week and about half the fish caught were on the troll. However, the boats that had the higher numbers of bites came from live bait presentations to sleepers and feeders.

Live Bait Supply: Continued to be plentiful into & through the full moon phase. Caballitos still at $3.00 per bait as were frozen ballyhoo baits for rigging.
