David Sweig of San Diego is the son of Cherry Sweig, well-known Gyotaku (Japanese fish prints) artist, and he goes to the University of California at Santa Barbara, where the 20-year-old studies civil engineering.
Sweig took a five-day trip with owner-skipper John Klein aboard the Qualifier 105, and returned with the first place fish July 12.
David's albacore weighed 39 pounds. It took a sardine on a 2/0 Super Mutu hook tied to 25-pound P-Line on a Trinidad 20 reel and a Calstar 765L rod.
