Catfish bite RED HOT at Santa Ana River Lakes

7-15-2013
Jim Matthews

The catfish action is getting better and better every week at Santa Ana River Lakes.

Double fish stockings every week is the contributing factor on why the bite is so strong at SARL. The heaviest catfish of the week was caught by Fernando of Garden Grove. Fernando landed a 11 1/2 pound cat using a shrimp & marshmallow combo fishing in the big lake. Dan Freeman & Tammie Clark of City are back again, this dynamic duo landed another massive stringer for the week. The pair ended up with 20 catfish totaling 50 pounds using mackerel near the bubble hole. Santiago Palacio, pictured above of West Covina caught 18 catfish totaling 36 1/2 pounds using both shrimp & mackerel at "The Road". Dave Mayeda of Tustin caught 10 catfish with a total weight of 26 pounds fly lining shrimp from a boat at Levitz corner. Santa Ana River Lakes is open seven-days-a-week and has 24 hour overnight fishing/camping sessions every weekend during the summer.
