The catfish bite at Santa Ana River Lakes is red hot, especially on the weekend overnight fishing and camping sessions. The overnight 24 hour fisherman have been taking advantage of the smoking hot late night bite. The heaviest catfish of the week was caught and safely released back into the big lake by Demetric Ward, pictured of Garden Grove. Demetric landed a huge 24 pound catfish using mackerel in the big lake by the boat dock. Bill Schroeder of Norwalk caught a 10 lb. 2 oz. catfish using a night-crawler in Chris' Pond. Mike Stutz of Anaheim fished over the weekend and ended up with 21 catfish totaling 43 pounds. Mike's largest cat weighed in at 5 lb. 7 oz. and he was using both shrimp & mackerel in the catfish lake. Santiago Palacios of West Covina landed 14 catfish totaling 39 lbs. 10 oz. using a shrimp/marshmallow combo fishing at "The Road"". Howard Beastro of Villa Park caught 5 catfish totaling 17 lbs. 4 oz. using shrimp at the boat dock.
