An unusually slow charter week for the Mazatalan Sportfishing Fleet

An unusually slow charter week for The Aries Sportfishing Fleet and especially considering the first week of June. We expect the fishing and the charters to begin their early summer upward spiral as the schools begin to let out for the summer. While the billfish catches remained very good for the offshore waters, the anglers were certainly lacking for the offshore fishing and the inshore super panga fishing. Reporting in with 7 off shore fishing days the fleet reflected 2 striped marlin released, 6 sailfish, (3 released) and 3 dorado for their efforts and followed by no anglers for the inshore super pangas.

Mazatlan Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days and pleasant evenings with temps that ranged from 72 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Excellent water temps that have moved up a notch or two and now hold stable at 84 degrees from inshore to offshore waters and the blue water starts at about 5 miles from the coastline. The surface breezes have been flowing in from the SW at 5-10 mph and the overall offshore conditions remain very good.

Best Fishing Area: Most of the billfish have been taken over a wide area out to the south of the Marina El Cid, starting at about 15 miles or so and outbound from there. The annual build up of dorado at the shark/fad buoys has yet to take place but is rapidly approaching and has recently shown signs of bait & birds in the area along with a few dorado free swimmers in the areas.

Best Bait/Lure: The rigged baits remain the hot ticket item for the billfish and the dorado. The few dorado taken have been quality sized fish in the 20-plus lb. ranges.

Bait Supply: Excellent supply of freshly caught baits for rigging and a good supply of live bait is currently available at the rate of $1.00 per bait.
