Captain Temo Verboonen, owner/operator of the super panga "Secuestro de Amor", had a glowing report for the inshore waters where the roosterfish were stacking up like cords of wood and chasing the surface poppers in pyramid formations. You could feel the excitement of the action just reading Temo's notes for the week....."schools of them chase the poppers like crazy. All kinds and sizes. Just wonderful fishing days. The sardinas have arrived along the coast and the big fish are following the balls of bait. A good, calm ocean and warm weather.....". The off shore fishing remains pretty good, too, but the billfish are bouncing back & forth with the water temperature changes and tend to change locations by the day. Still, the sailfish, along with striped marlin are still offering pretty good billfish action and the school sized yellowfin tuna continue to bite. Blue water is everywhere and the off shore fishing starts at about 12 miles or so, with the tuna a little farther off shore.

IZ Climate: Partly cloudy days with a chance for evening rains and temps that remained at 71 nights to 91 daytime highs. Tropical surface breezes continue at 10-15 mph.

Sea Conditions: Water temps stable at 81 inshore and rising to 82 offshore, out to and beyond the 1000 fathom curve, with excellent water clarity throughout the area. Mostly calm waters this past week with the SW surface breezes at 110-15 mph.

Best Fishing Area: The Valentin River area and along the sandy beach areas where the bait balls are attracting the roosterfish and jack crevalles. Off shore waters from about 12 miles or so and beyond, depending on the water temperatures and currents for the day being fished.

Best Bait/Lure: Poppers are the hot inshore bite preference and resulting in fast action with the roosterfish. Rigged baits working best for the offshore billfish and a variety of feathers, cedar plugs and most anything shinny has been working well for the yellowfin tuna.

Bait Supply: The bait supply remains readily available for the various sportfishers with live bait continuing at about $5.00 per dozen and an ample supply of fresh baits for rigging.
