Tasty catfish are on the chew at Santa Ana River Lakes

The catfish season is picking up speed at Santa Ana River Lakes. This is most likely due to the heavy double stockings of tilapia and catfish every week.

Anglers still targeting trout will have a nice surprise as the heaviest fish of the week was a rainbow trout. Pedro Villa of Anaheim landed a 13 pound trout using a mealworm-marshmallow combo at the East shore in the Big Lake.

Heaviest stringer of the week goes to Santiago Palacios of West Covina. Santiago fished overnight and landed 15 catfish totaling 36 lbs 12 oz. using mackerel at "The Road". Santiago also fished two days earlier with his wife Adela Palacios and landed another 15 cats totaling 34 1/2 pounds at "The Road" again using fresh shrimp & mackerel.

Greg Samarn & Dennis Johnson caught the heaviest catfish of the week at 10 1/2 pounds. It took the two man team to land this big catfish using mackerel at the big pipe in Chris' Pond. Nash Helm of La Mirada caught 15 catfish totaling 29 pounds using mackerel covered in Love Sauce float tubing in the catfish lake.

Santa Ana River Lakes is open seven-days-a-week and has 24 hour overnight fishing/camping sessions every weekend during the summer. New lower prices check www.fishinglakes.com for price slashes on the Big Summer Friends & Family discount special.
