All of the billfish taken this past week have come from the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo and the better bite has been from the Gorda Banks out to the 1150 and north to Destiladeras, just south of Las Frailes. Billfish had been seen scattered all the way from just east of Cabo San Lucas to Gorda Banks, before getting something to bite. Even when you got to the location where the bite was yesterday, there might not be anything at all the following day and the hunt would be on again. A number of the boats fished close by to Cabo, mostly off the Cabo Falso light house area, for the yellowtail action and adding some skipjack to the counts. The high count boat for billfish was the "Gaviota IX", reflecting a total of 5 stripers of which 4 were taken on a single day. High boat for the yellowtail action was the Fish Cabo, reflecting 27 fish for 2 days fished. The overall fish counts for a total of 24 days fished reflected 9 stripers, (7 released) 3 sharks, 6 dorado, 98 skipjack, 1 Sierra and 46 yellowtail.

Cabo Climate: Clear to partly cloudy and warm days with temps from 62 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Changing directions for the surface breezes that have been ranging from light & variable to 25 mph. Pacific water temps are cool at 64-67, changing at Cabo San Lucas and into the Sea of Cortez side to 74-75 degrees. Clarity is best out to the south of Cabo and on the Sea of Cortez side with some greenish tinted water scattered throughout the area. Pacific side is mostly green water.

Best Fishing Area: The billfish bite continues to be best on the Sea of Cortez side, starting in the Gorda Banks area and on up to Destiladeras, in the Las Frailes area. The yellowtail bite continues to be in the Cabo Falso area with most fish in the 12-15 lb. ranges.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait is best for the billfish and for the yellowtail. However, many yellowtail being caught on yo-yo iron and slabs of bait.

Bait Supply: We did not receive the bait supply information but assume it was OK, lacking any negative reports.
