The Water Tempertaures have taken their toll at Mazatalan

The Sea of Cortez, along the southeastern shoreline, has been experiencing daily and weekly changes in the current conditions and the water temperature variations that have taken it's toll on the overall good fishing that the area had been enjoying for the past several weeks. The month of April is always susceptible to extreme changes in current and water temp conditions throughout the Sea of Cortez, and while we thought this year was going to be different, it was apparently just delayed for a bit of time. We will know more with another week's passing of time but for now, there has been substantial change that diluted the offshore fishing results this past week. The week's prior report created a false impression that the fishing was going to go wide open with an early bite on the billfish and dorado and by this week, it had fizzled. The offshore fishing for 12 days reflected 3 stripers and a single dorado for their efforts and the inshore super panga fishing for 8 days reflected 8 dorado, 15 corvina, 20 rock perch, 5 barracuda and 125 white snappers.

Mazatlan Climate: Cool mornings and evenings remain with temps at 54 degrees through the nights and rising to a warm and pleasant 85 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Westerly surface breezes at 10-15 mph and surface temps holding at 75-76 inshore and rising to 78-79 offshore.

Best Fishing Area: No special area provided a concentration of fish.

Best Lure/Bait: All of the offshore fish were taken on the rigged trolling baits.
Bait Supply: Continues to remain plentiful for both, live bait and fresh baits for rigging.
