In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.

Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day Bass boats are available Mon-Thurs for 35$ each.

The Trout fishing has been good despite some heavy winds coming out of the East. Frank Huberts of Vista had the big fish of the week with his 7.20# rainbow caught on green powerbait in Willow Cove. Other notable catches included; Obediah Barnett's 6.40#, Obed Martinez's 6.00# and six year old Isabelle Perrington's 2.10#. Boat Dock Cove and Willow Cove have all been doing well due to the proximity of the plant and being sheltered from the winds. Salmon eggs, mouse tails, and inflated nightcrawlers are the top baits.

The lilac is beginning to bloom on the surrounding hillsides signaling the return of the Bass to shallower waters. The pre-spawn has begun and small to medium Bass can be found near structure scoping out territory and readying their nests. Richard Fridell of Escondido caught and released a 3.85# largemouth Tuesday on an umbrella lure at the South Shore Rock Pile. Expect the numbers and the size of the Largemouth Bass to increase in the following weeks as the water temperature continues to rise and they begin to spawn. Swimbaits, crawdads, and dark colored plastics are all excellent baits early in the season.
