Two Record breaking Spotted Bass caught last week at New Melones Reservoir

Glory Hole Sports Staff
Last week Mel Caldwell, pictured above caught and released what would have been the new lake record spotted bass. Mel was trolling a blue/silver Trophy Stick when he hooked and landed a beautiful 8-pound, 8-ounce spot. For Glory Hole Sports to recognize a lake record fish it must be weighed on one of our scales and verified by a store employee. A lake record fish is only good for bragging rights. We encourage catch and release, so we will recognize Mel Caldwell's 8-pound, 8-ounce lunker as the unofficial lake record.
Then this happened. Another New Lake Record Spotted Bass was caught this week. Mike Sanders, Photo #1 of Hughson caught a massive 8-pound, 3-ounce lunker on Thursday. He was fishing a main lake point when he hook and landed this record fish. He reported catching it in the early morning on a Huddleston R.O.F. 12, rainbow trout patterned swim bait.
The previous record was caught by Joe Bruce, Photo #2 of Sonora. He caught this massive 8-pound 1-ounce fish on a crank bait while fishing near Morman creek.
The current state record was caught by Bryan Shishido, Photo #3 on April 21, 2001 out of Pine Flat Lake. It weighed 10-pounds, 4-ounces. If you catch a fish that is larger, and want it to be recognized as a state record, it must be weighed on a certified scale. The post office or the grocery store meat department has a certified scale.
Please practice catch and release for the brown trout also. They will no longer be planted so it is our responsibility to help the population sustain.
Thanks - from all of us at Glory Hole Sports
