Puerto Morelos reports catches for 14 different species

The wide spectrum catches continued this past week from Puerto Morelos and spanned a 14 fish variety in their report that encompassed some 35 days fished. For the first time in several weeks, there were no sailfish reported in the catches but still, good fishing action that kept the averages above an 8 fish per boat day fished. The mixed bag reported by Ms. Nayade Gamboa, our local reporter, reflected 5 dorado, 43 bonito, 5 king mackerel, 5 Sierra mackerel, 12 giant Atlantic barracuda, 1 wahoo, 2 blackfin tuna, 8 amberjack, 6 soap fish, 22 strawberry fish, 23 banana fish, 23 triggerfish, 22 grouper and 25 snapper, (included dog-toothed, cubera, yellowtail & white tail snappers).

PM Climate: Partly cloudy but warm days with temps that ranged from 70 nights to 86 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Good sea temps that held stable at 81 degrees. Water clarity remains very good and the surface wind varied from light & variable to about 18 mph, all from the easterly directions, normal for this area.

Best Bait: The freshly caught ballyhoo are provided to all of the fishing boats on a daily basis and continue to be the bait of choice for this area.
