12-22-2012
Wohlford Lake Staff
Park Hours: 6:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. Open seven days a week. (closed x-mas day)
Dock Closes: 4:30 P.M.
Last Plant: 1,500 lbs. of Rainbow Trout Wednesday, December 19th.
Next Plant: 1,500 lbs. of Rainbow trout Thursday, December 27th
Water Temperature: At surface 54.32 f., 3.30 D.O. @ 15' 54.86 f., 3.32 D.O.
Water Level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month. Half day Bass boats are available Mon-Thurs for 35$ each.
The trout fishing has been good and only stands to get better with next Thursday's plant. Jose Camacho of Escondido had the biggest trout of the week at 7.50#s caught on a Kastmaster in Boat Dock Cove. Blake Willmore of Oceanside came in second with his 6.85# rainbow taken on powerbait on Senior Shoreline. So far Boat Dock Cove and Willow Cove have been the two most productive locations and Kastmaster Lures have been every bit as effective as floating bait.
Largemouth Bass can be found around structure lying in wait for the recently stocked trout. Justin Kennedy of Valley Center caught and released an 8.15# Bass using a swimbait at Bass Point. This is an excellent time to be using a swimbait that looks like a small trout. Dark colored plastics and crawdads are some other favorites.
Huge Catfish continue to be caught throughout the lake. Monday Keo Sitt of Escondido weighed in a 25.10# Catfish caught on Mackerel at Bass Point and Friday Fanta Phanthilath also of Escondido landed a 19.95# blue on Mackerel at the West Bouys.
