Wohlford Lake Staff
Park Hours: 6:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M. (Open Weekends, Closed Monday-Friday)
Dock Closes: 4:30 P.M.
Next Plant: 4,500 lbs. of Rainbow Trout Saturday, December 8th.
Water Temperature: At surface 64.04 f., 4.84 D.O. @ 15' 63.86 f., 3.69 D.O.
Water Level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
Opening day and the first plant, 4,500 lbs of Nebraska Tailwalkers, are less than a month away. Beginning December eighth the Lake will re-open for weekday fishing.
Catfish continue to be the best option for catching fish. Young Cedric Patton of San Diego managed to land a 16.25# Catfish using mackerel off Twin Peaks. Catfish prefer cut mackerel or chicken liver. Stop by the ranger station for a dough bait recipe that works great on both Catfish and Carp.
Medium sized Bass are starting to show up at the scales with increasing regularity. Chris Lenker of Valley Center caught and released a 6.75# largemouth last Saturday fishing near Crappie Rock with a plastic worm. Bass can be found mostly around structure and bite best in the early mornings and late afternoons. Dark colored plastics are a preferred bait.
