Fish Report for 9-28-2012
The fishing action was a little slower at Mazatalan this week
9-28-2012
Larry Edwards
Very slow on charters and anglers but for those that did get out, the fishing was good and the sailfish were biting, along with a mix of dorado and yellowfin tuna. The fleet fished 6 offshore days that produced 6 sailfish, 6 dorado and 22 yellowfin tuna, (school sized fish in the 10-15 lb. ranges) The "Aries IX" was high boat for the week and produced 3 of the sailfish, 12 yellowfin tuna, and 2 dorado for their 2 fishing days. There were only 2 inshore fishing days for the super pangas that reflected a catch of 12 dorado for those efforts and providing the anglers with some terrific fillets for dinner.
Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy days with chance of showers at about 50% for the next 5 days. Only light & variable surface breezes predicted for the coming 5-6 days.
Sea Conditions: Surface conditions are very calm throughout the area with 5-10 mph surface breezes in the forecast and almost no swell being encountered throughout the area.
Best Fishing Area: The billfish are mostly in the 20 to 25 miles area, out to the southwest of the Marina El Cid. Water temps are holding stable in the 86-87 degree range throughout the area, from inshore to offshore.
Best Lure/Bait: Sailfish were taken on the rigged trolling baits from the outriggers and the tuna were on the feathers and cedar plugs.
Bait Supply: Continues to be very good with both, rigging baits supplied fresh daily and live bait.
