Angler Guy Yokum, Dana Point, CA, fishing aboard his 61' Viking Yacht sportfisher, "El Suertudo", (Spanish for the luckiest one) landed what appears to be a new world record yellowfin tuna that tipped the scale at 421 lbs. and 427 lbs., (weighed on two different scales). Cabo's always on the spot IGFA rep, Minerva Saenz, (Minerva's Tackle) was present for the weigh-in and certification. Either of the weights will qualify for a new world record and the scale from the yacht will be sent off for verification of the heavier weight. The fish was reportedly taken on a Mustad hook, 100 lb. line, using chunk bait from a Shimano Tiagra reel and is likely to make the catch eligible for the Mustad Million Dollar competition for anglers that catch an all tackle world record prior to September 30, 2012. This fine trophy was taken approximately 180 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, on a multi-day trip, skippered by Captain Greg DiStefano, San Clemente, CA.

On the local scene from Cabo San Lucas, the fishing was still on a roll and providing some very good action for the anglers. High boat for the week was the "Gaviota III", reporting in for 5 days fished that resulted in 6 stripers and 15 dorado for their anglers. Our combined fishing report for 24 days fished reflected a total of 1 blue marlin, 18 stripers, (16 released) 2 sailfish released, 37 dorado and 22 yellowfin tuna, (to 88 lbs. in the local waters).

Cabo Climate: Mostly sunny, warm and clear days with an occasional passing cloud and temps that ranged from 74 nights to 93 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Some residual swell on the Pacific side but overall, a very fishable and enjoyable week. Water temps are holding at 85-86 on the Pacific side, from the Finger Bank on down to Cabo Falso and rising to 87 at Cabo and increasing to 91 by the Gorda Banks and outside to the Cabrillo Sea Mount on the Sea of Cortez side.

Best Fishing Area: Continues to be on the Pacific side with the better bite closer to shore and not associated with the banks.

Best Bait/Lure: Live bait was best for the billfish, bigger dorado and the bigger tuna.

Live Bait Supply: So far this week, the supply for live caballitos has been readily available for our boats.
