Largemouth bass have moved into the shallows and are on the bite again

9-18-2012
Cachuma Lake Staff

Largemouth bass haven moved into the shallows early, with blades shallow cranks and creature baits all working well. Afternoons have both largies and smallies deeper off the main lake points and the edge of the river channel. Spoons, texas rigged plastics and dro[ shot plastics have all been taking fish.

The catfish bite has been going strong in shallow coves and fly-lined mackerel, packaged dough baits and nightcrawlers are getting the job done on the whiskerfish.

Crappie showed some improvement with the slightly cooler water. Those fishing with jigs in the narrows and the back of Cachuma Bay have been rewarded with some quality slabs.

Trolling is still slow and only a handful of rainbows were caught last week. Down rigged needle fish and 'crawlers were the top offerings. Look for plantws to begin next month. Bowfishing reports have been scarce due to the general lack of archers again.
