We are definitely enjoying peak season fishing, and it's been going on for a couple of weeks, at least. Many have noticed the good angling coincides with the most ferocious heat wave San Diegans can remember. I live in Oceanside, and I've had to run my air conditioning night and day pretty much the whole time; about a year's worth in normal conditions. But the fishing's great! Here's a typical yellowfin from the Royal Star to illustrate.

Boats operating at overnight and day and a half range have been scoring just about as well as the rigs on longer trips, though the on-off again quality doesn't make for limits every day. When the wind is down, if you're lucky, you've been cleaning up on short trips. Longer runs are getting some premium tuna and 'tails along with the school fish. Most notably, the Red Rooster III found biting bluefin up to 100 pounds on two days. That catch will grace the docks tomorrow.
