Fish Report for 6-22-2012
The Billfish have showed up at the 95 Fathom Spot in Cabo and have decided to bite

In comparison to the past couple of weeks, it was a banner fishing week from Cabo San Lucas, as the billfish showed up close to Cabo at the 95 Fathom Spot and toward the end of the week decided to bite. Gaviota IX had a 4 marlin release day on Wednesday, June 20th, adding up to a total of 8 stripers released for 5 days fished. One thing for sure is the on-going up and down temperature changes and water clarity changes for the entire Cabo area that has wrapped "Lands End" for several weeks and wreaked havoc with the catching of billfish and this past week was no different. The Sea temperatures shot back up and the water in some of the areas got a little cleaner and the fish showed up in those areas. We don't think the billfish have vacated the area but just stopped biteing when the environmental sea changes become radical and often show a 10 degree change in the sea surface temps in a 24-hour period. We only had 10 boat days fished this past week that reflected 10 stripers released, along with 6 dorado, 1 yellowfin tuna and 1 skipjack tuna.
Cabo Climate: Sunny and warm days with temps from 73 nights to 89 daytime highs and surface breezes rolling in from the southerly directs from 5 to 20 mph.
Sea Conditions: The sea surface temps continue to change on a daily basis and the clarity has been questionable for much of the area. Seems like the moment the temps hold for a day and the water gets just a little clarity to it, the billfish pop right back up for that day. By the next day, the entire environment changes and the fish disappear, popping back up in completely different locations. The sea surface temperature photos from satellite positions, offered by terrafin.com, are an asset to the Cabo fishing fleets and allow them to view the area on a daily basis.
Best Fishing Area: The best bite was close to Cabo in the area of the 95 Fathom Spot, (Herradura) for more than 2 days this past week.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait is the ticket to catch a billfish right now.
Live Bait Supply: Remains plentiful for the live caballitos at $3.00 per bait.
