Bass, Catfish, Bluegill & Crappie are on the chew at Lake Morena

6-1-2012
Lake Morena Staff

Lake Conditions: Surface temp. warming to 70.3 and 65.7 @ 20 ft. There's warmer water in the coves and shallow end of lake.
Water Visibility: Clarity is clearing to 3' to 6'.

** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in Lake Morena so be sure you acquire one before you arrive.

Trout: Rainbows are still being caught in the deeper waters. Paradise cove was again active this week. Among the cover's we have Donna and Dudley Baldeno from Descanso each limited with 14.14 lbs using nightcrawlers and green power bait. Randy Wilson from Campo came in with over 8lbs with corn power bait. Hisham Shihab from El Cajon fooled a 5 lb 8 oz'er.

Bass: My friend Mitch Jones from San Diego took his son out in our rental boat and captured several bass, blue gill and crappie. Another visit from the nameless Bass club with about 20 boats was here Saturday and they all got happy with their weigh-ins. Everyone was a winner so they say.

Catfish: Plenty of whiskers are being fooled in the brush near the shoreline. The 'dip' near the boat dock is easy access and has produced cats that can't escape to the brush. Gil Gazman, Dan Pinal and John Capelouto combined for 30 lbs of taco filling's. It is best to beef up your line when attempting these monsters.

Blue Gill: The Gills are popping up all around the shoreline using small hooks and large meal worms. You may catch a few while rigged for crappie.

Crappie: This is the best crappie catch in years. Brain Scott and his heard were here Sunday and clobbered the tasty pan fish in various rocky shore points. The 'dip' near the boat dock with its boulders works really well. Rig up your favorite lead-heads. Color doesn't seem to matter.

Carp: None reported this week but evidence of the discarded were found about the lake and fish cleaning house.
