Lake Morena Staff

Lake Conditions:

Surface Temp: Warming to 65.8 and 63.5 @ 20 ft. There's warmer water in the coves and shallow end of lake.
Water Clarity:
Water visibility is still clearing to 3' to 5'

. ** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in Lake Morena so be sure you acquire one before you arrive.

Trout: Considering all the crappie and bass being caught lately the anglers are still plucking out the rainbows. Jim Hill from Campo was out a few days this week and clobbered his limit in an afternoon bite. He's still using shorty Rapalas. Tom Bossard of Boulevard went to a few of his spots and fooled two 5 lb plus trout.

Bass: Bass season is here! All voice reports were of the catch and release nature. All I can say is anyone going for the bass came out happy. Most action was around the tulles near the shore. Horseshoe cove was a popular spot.

Catfish: Jim Hill was having a blast as he tied into his limit of big cats near the shore. Two were too big for his net and one flew into the brush breaking his line. He resorted to 30 lb and 65 lb braided line where he was able to collect over 30 lbs of the whiskers along with one or two bushes in the skirmish. Another angler reported catching a Blue catfish with no other details.

Carp: None reported this week but evidence of the discarded were found about the lake and fish cleaning house.

Blue Gill: The Gills are popping up all around the shoreline using small hooks and large meal worms.

Crappie: This is the best crappie catch in years. Several holes have been productive, one being either side of the 'dip' near the boat dock. Josh Meyer, pictured above epitomized this season with a basket plum full weighing 25.8lbs (without the basket).
