Trout are still biting & the Bass bite is just beginning at Lake Morena

Lake Conditions: Surface temp. Warming to 66 and 61.6 @ 20 ft. Warmer water in the coves and shallow end of lake.
Water Visibility: Is still clearing to 3' to 5'

. ** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in Lake Morena so be sure you acquire one before you arrive.

Trout: Rainbows are still playing significant part of this week's catch. Jeff Brenner and his brother with Paul Curtis from San Diego all limited while trolling with swim bait. Young Mr. Zachary Reskuski, pictured above from El Cajon managed a 2 lb-er with a night crawler in Horseshoe cove. Jordan Afreth from El Cajon also caught his limit with blue/white Rapalas while trolling. Tom Bossard and John Brenner from Campo where out again this week fooling several species in various undisclosed spots around the lake. Their haul of trout amounted to 3 each between 4 and 5 pound range. More on them later.

Bass: Bass season is here! The best of the week goes to Jack Reyes from Pine Valley was paddling his float tube when he hauled in a 10 pound-even large mouth. Tom and John continued to play with crank baits and rapalas in the coves garnering several nice bass. All Catch and release.

Catfish: Tom and John weren't choosy on what fell on their hooks. Tom was pleased with his 5 lb-er. No other personal reports but plenty of evidence in the cleaning house of cats being caught.

Carp: None reported this week

Blue Gill: Jack Reyes kept busy between bass to fool several bluegills with meal worms near the shores.

Crappie: This delectable fish is being caught in the warmer waters of the lake such as Horseshoe cove and Boat dock cove. A variety of lead head jigs from feathered to bi-colored have been successful.
