5-26-2012
Lake Morena Staff

Lake Conditions: Surface temp. warming to 70.3 and 65.7 @ 20 ft. There's warmer water in the coves and shallow end of lake.
Water Visibility:
Visibility is still clearing to 3' to 5'

. ** IMPORTANT NOTE** There are currently no state fishing licenses available in Lake Morena so be sure you acquire one before you arrive.

Trout:
Rainbows are still being caught in the deeper waters. But our Jim Rice and his Brother managed two days of limits each day while trolling the entire lake. Swim baits with colors like white and blue were working too. Bass - Two Bass clubs have been here this week checking their spots before today's tournament. Most report 2 lbs to 4 lbs with the top being 6.4 lbs. All members ending up happy with their days catch and release. Kevin Mattson, pictured above pulled in a beauty as did Stan Peterson, Photo # 1. See pictures.

Catfish:
Plenty of whiskers are being fooled in the brush near the shoreline. It's best to beef up your line when attempting these monsters.

Carp:
None reported this week but evidence of the discarded were found about the lake and fish cleaning house.

Blue Gill:
The Gills are popping up all around the shoreline using small hooks and large meal worms. You may catch a few while rigged for crappie.

Crappie:
This is the best crappie catch in years. Jim Rice and Brother pulled in a few as they were trolling for trout. Brian Scott said he caught more than enough crappie to make tacos. Plenty of action around the rocks. The 'dip' near the boat dock with its boulders works really well. Rig up your favorite lead-heads. Color doesn't seem to matter.
