STILL SCRATCHING (021612)!!! Today was a lot like yesterday, but we're deep enough into the trip now, that they all seem to run together. Unless you've got a daily pill organizer (and who among us doesn't!), there's really now way to even know the day of the week, and as for the time, you find yourself wondering if the next meal is dinner, or have we had lunch yet. Ok, enough rambling, it's the fishing you want to know about. The morning bite went off as scheduled, around 4 A.M. It was as wide open as it gets, and the fish were the size that almost any angler in the world would go crazy over, and every 18 day long ranger would find some what lacking. Again the bulk of the fish were in the 30 to 60lb range, with a very few in the 60 to 80 size, and then there's Roger Hawtree, who some how sneaked in an estimated 140 to 150 pound yellowfin. We're not sure how he did it, but I suspect he brought it with him from Hawaii, has been hiding it in is stateroom, and put it on a hook when no one was looking! By the time the sun came up it was over, and the rest of the day was a very tough scratch. Largest tuna of the day was around 170. A few waves of wahoo found us, and several were very, very nice. Robert Tankersley got the first one on iron or bait which won the daily derby prize of a $50 trolling lure. Pat Bowles got a monster over 70 pounds, and Dave Marsden who had never caught a wahoo in his life, not only lost his hoo virginity, but got another one just for insurance. Dave now has his first 100 or over tuna, his first wahoo, and he says if he doesn't catch another fish this trip, it's been his best. Funny though, I still see him at the rail constantly. For the day we got 63 tuna and 17 wahoo. We're hoping that the big boys have been waiting for the RSW fish hold to open which happens tomorrow, and we are at the point where we are cutting off smaller fish so we'll have plenty of room for them when the come.
POEM OF THE DAY:
I only got one chance to troll
To land one of course was my goal
But my rod broke in half
When the fish came to gaff
My sole troll took a toll on my pole.
If you would like to go fishing with us please BOOK ONLINE or call (619) 226-8092 to get in on the action.

2-17-2012CARBON COPY (021612)!!! I know I must sound like a broken record but that's just the way things are out here. Today was so much like yesterday that for the most part, only the names have been changed. To save you from looking back to yesterday's report, I'll briefly summarize. Like clock work the best bite of the day went off around 4 A.M. and ended at first light. My theory is that these are vampire tuna, and afraid of...... Read More

HARD DAY OF FISHING (021512)!!! The day started very early on the R.P., and we had a good bite going by 4 A.M. Unfortunately we still haven't found the size of fish we are hoping for and the majority of this morning's fish were in the 30 to 70 pound range. As has been the case so far this trip, the majority of the larger fish are coming off the kite, and although we couldn't reach the 200 mark today, we...... Read More
