Brian Kiyohara brought American Angler home to Pt. Loma Sportfishing December 6 after a ten-day trip with 23 anglers. He said there was sign of fish on the banks, but the tuna didn't bite well until he tangled with smaller fish up on the 13 Spot.
John Wataguchi of Torrance won first place for a 156-pound yellowfin tuna. He said it was his best fish, and first tuna over 100 pounds. It took a sardine on a 5/0 ringed Owner Gorilla hook and 60-pound Blackwater fluorocarbon, an Accurate BX2-600 reel and a Calstar 700 H rod.
Jay Maeda of Granada Hills won second place for a 125-pound tuna, and Kevin Nonoguchi of Westchester took third place for a 74-pound yellowfin tuna.
