Fish Report for 9-15-2011
Ixtapa Zihuatanejo fishing was very good, 6 to 8 Dorado per boat + a chance for a Sailfish
9-15-2011
Larry Edwards
Captain Temo Verboonen was all smiles this past week as the area's rainy season let up for most of the week and the fish were biting just a few miles from the entrance to Zihuatanejo Bay. While still slow on anglers, those that did go out had great fishing that provided 6-8 dorado per boat per day and several opportunities for
sailfish. Even better was the close proximity to the Bay and the calmness of the sea surface conditions this past week. The dorado sizes varied from smaller fish in the 15 lb. range to bigger fish in the 30-35 lb. ranges. The inshore fishing for the roosterfish was good for the 25-35-pounders and there were some Sierra mackerel in
the mix, too. There has been a very good bite for amberjack, (averaging about 35-40 lbs) and eager to bite on the live baits.
Overall, it was one of the fun-fishing weeks in pretty good weather and calmer waters that produced happy customers.
IZ Climate:
Mostly cloudy days but almost no rain for the week aside from a scattered shower and temps that ranged from 72 nights to 91 daytime highs.
Sea Conditions:
A good week with mostly calm seas, light and variable surface breezes, almost no swell and fish that want to bite, in temps from 85 to 87 degrees.
Best Fishing Area:
Right at the 7-mile mark the dorado and sailfish became active for all of the boats this past week and even some catches of oceanic tuna (skipjack) were back on the prowl and willing to bite.
Best Bait/Lure:
Dorado and sails good on the rigged baits and slow trolled live baits were also working well. Oceanic tuna on smaller feathers. Amberjack at the rocks biting very well on the live bait as were the inshore roosterfish.
Bait Supply:
Good supply of all bait, both live and dead trolling baits available everyday.
