Chartermaster Jack Nilsen of Accurate Fishing Products arrived with his group of 31 anglers aboard the Qualifier 105 September 3 after a seven-day trip with skipper Joe Crisci. They fished at Alijos Rocks and The Ridge, with a half-day stop at Cedros Island on the way home.

"We fished for mixed tuna for a day," Jack told dock reporter Bill Roecker, "and did some good business at the 23 Spot on The Ridge. We also spent a day and a half at Alijos Rocks, where tuna fishing was slow. Otherwise fishing was very good, and so was the weather. We had four father-son combos aboard."

Anky Truong of LA won first place for his 52.4-pound yellowfin tuna. It bit a sardine on a 2/0 ringed Owner Mutu hook on wire leader. He said he used 40-pound P-Line and 65-pound Power Pro spectra on an Accurate BX-2 500 reel and a nine-foot Phenix rod.

Chance Moses of Corona won second place for a 43.5-pound wahoo. Larry Mackey of Sylmar and Gene McKenna of Sunnyvale tied for third place with a brace of 40-pound bluefin tuna.
